Info for parents and families

Welcome to Wayne State!

As a parent or family member of a Warrior, we know you have questions about what your student will experience.

Be sure that your student has included your contact information on their orientation reservation form so that we can communicate with you throughout the transition on topics like academic advising, academic support in the classroom, financial information, living on campus and more!

What can my student expect from the orientation program?

We will do our best to communicate as much information as possible regarding the orientation process to both you and your student. During the orientation program, your student will learn more about their new academic career path, meet with their advising team and register for classes. They also have the opportunity to tour campus and our residence halls, speak with financial aid representatives and get to know how to navigate their new campus community.

There will be plenty of activities before and after their orientation program so be on the lookout for this information through emails and text messages.

What program opportunities are available for parent and family members of Wayne State students?

For students joining Wayne State during the winter 2025 semester, guests will be able to attend the orientation program alongside their student. Your student will need to add their guest information including name and email address when they make their reservation to secure your space and ensure that you also receive reminder communications.

For students joining Wayne State during the spring/summer or fall 2025 semesters, you'll learn more about Wayne State during Parent and Family Orientation, which runs concurrent to but separate from your student's scheduled orientation program. During your orientation, you'll hear from many of our student support offices and be able to get any questions that you have answered. You will meet back up with your student in the afternoon once they have finished registering for their courses.
